How to Ensure a Positive Portable Toilet Experience

Portable toilets are a sight for sore eyes when visiting venues or events that are based outdoors and otherwise provide no access to toilet facilities. With that said, many people still have reservations about using them, being worried about the smell and general cleanliness of such toilets due to their portable and temporary nature.

As such, it’s important to ensure that your customers or visitors have as positive an experience as possible when using the portable toilets at your venue. Read our top tips below on how to do just that.

Keep a Clean Interior

If there’s one thing we all want from a toilet experience, it’s cleanliness. Whilst the actual toilets in portable loos are kept clean themselves thanks to the use of a special chemical that’s released when the toilets are flushed, it’s still important to ensure other areas are kept hygienic.

At a minimum, the interior of your service toilets should be cleaned at least once a day. This includes wiping down all surfaces with disinfectant, including the toilet seat, flusher, handle and any other surfaces that users are likely to come into contact with. Similarly, sweeping and mopping the floor to rid it of any debris and mud further helps to keep a clean appearance.

You’ll also want to make sure that toilet roll is stocked up at all times, as well as any paper hand towels.

Consider Additional Hygiene Products

Just because the bare minimum is enough to meet people’s needs, this doesn’t mean you can’t go the extra mile to further ensure their comfort. As such, it’s a good idea to think about additional hygiene solutions you can offer users of your portable toilets.

For example, consider installing sanitary bins for the disposal of any feminine hygiene products, which can otherwise not be flushed and will be appreciated by many users.

You may also want to install additional hand sanitising stations outside the portable toilets. Whilst the soap should be refilled regularly, in the event that it does run out, users will be appreciative of an alternative option. Many people appreciate this regardless, as they like having the option of multiple personal sanitation stations, especially in wake of the recent pandemic.

Invest in Appreciated Additions

As well as keeping a clean and convenient interior, there are other accents you can add to your portable toilets to really elevate the overall experience for users.

One such example is air fresheners. Portable toilets are known to not always smell great, due to their confined nature and the frequent usage they see. As such, adding an air freshener into them helps to keep the air smelling pleasant. You can simply place an automatic air freshener on any flat, stable surface within the toilet cabin, which will inject an agreeable scent into the air at regular intervals.
